What is Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS) & how does it work?

The Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS2) is a scheme that provides incentives for South Australians to save energy. The scheme is the successor to the Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) that ran from 2009 to 2020, and REPS1 from 2020 to 2025.

REPS aims to improve energy efficiency for households and small to medium businesses, with a strong consideration for low income households (Priority) to reduce energy costs through smarter energy use.

REPS facilitates financial incentives by setting energy productivity targets (EPTs) to gas and electricity retailers (obliged retailers).

These retailers incentivise customers to reduce their energy use in order to meet their EPTs, often through discounts, rebates, vouchers, etc. for approved energy saving technologies.

Activity Providers, like Ecovantage, ensure activities and upgrades meet REPS requirements, then submit the activities to the retailers for approval. Under the REPS scheme the savings are calculated in Gigajoules (GJ) and contribute to the obligated retailer’s annual total.

At Ecovantage we work with a network of trusted installers to carry out projects on our behalf, and our industry-leading Compliance team undertake project review and certificate applications for other energy organisations.
