What is a Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificate?
1 REGO = 1 MWh renewable electricity generated
Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates are part of the Federal Government’s broader Guarantee of Origin scheme.
They act as a mechanism to prove where and how renewable energy was created, allowing businesses to claim zero-emissions electricity consumption or prove the “green” status of secondary products.
To be eligible to create REGOs, you must own or operate an eligible facility, including an accredited power station, electricity generation system, or energy storage system.
REGOs can be created from the following renewable energy sources:
- Hydro
- Wind
- Solar
- Geothermal
- Energy crops
- Food and agricultural waste
- Bagasse
- Black liquor
- Landfill and sewage gas
